Make A Medley - Funkytown Medley
The song "Funkytown" was originally written in 1979 by the band Lipps, Inc. (also play on words for lip sync). In 1981, a completely different song from a completely different band was written ... "I Can't Go For That" by Hall & Oates.
At first glance, these two songs are different in tone and feel, but when you look at the chord structure and mechanics of both, you will find something surprising ... they are almost the same song. This is most noticeable at a key point in each song.
- In Funkytown, listen to the part that says "Won't you take me to Funkytown"
- In I Can't Go For That, listen to the verses in the song.
- Both parts are in C minor, have similar rhythms playing the chords, and have a very similar lick being played on the bass guitar.
It was almost like these two songs were made to be turned into a medley. Let's find out how we did that.
